Thousand Dollars Raised

We have supported successful advocacy campaigns at the local level that resulted in expanded language access in municipal election materials and polling places in three major counties.

• Expanded voter education and registration efforts across Region V, reaching over 12,000 community members through in-person events, bilingual materials, and targeted outreach at faith institutions, community centers, and cultural gatherings.

• Organized and led civic workshops and town halls addressing voting rights, redistricting, census participation, and immigration-related civic processes; provided interpreter-supported sessions to ensure accessibility for limited-English-proficient residents.

• Launched a sustained coalition of community organizations to coordinate nonpartisan civic engagement activities, increasing collaboration on GOTV (Get Out The Vote) initiatives and policy education.

• Implemented a youth civic leadership program that trained Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) youth in leadership skills, public speaking, community organizing, and civic processes; several alumni have taken leadership roles in local neighborhood councils and campus governments.

• Conducted targeted outreach to naturalized citizens and eligible permanent residents, facilitating 1,800 citizenship application assistance appointments and workshops on pathways to naturalization and voting eligibility.

• Deployed a multilingual hotline and digital outreach platform to answer civic-related questions, handling over 6,500 inquiries on voter registration, polling locations, ballot procedures, and related civic services.

• Coordinated census outreach that contributed to improved response rates in undercounted AAPI communities, supporting data accuracy for federal funding and political representation.

• Provided technical assistance and capacity-building grants to 12 grassroots groups to enhance their civic engagement operations, including training in volunteer management, data tracking, and coordinated outreach strategies.

• Engaged local media and produced culturally tailored public service announcements and op-eds to raise awareness about civic participation, resulting in measurable increases in event attendance and resource utilization.

• Monitored and documented barriers to civic participation faced by Region V communities and submitted policy recommendations to local election boards and elected officials to improve inclusivity and access.

• Organized and led a voter registration drive that registered 3,450 new voters across three counties, focusing on underrepresented communities and first-time voters.

• Ran a “Know Your Rights” series during naturalization and immigration clinics, assisting 1,150 attendees with accurate information and referrals, contributing to increased civic confidence and participation.

Region V’s history reflects a commitment to culturally grounded service delivery and collaborative engagement with other Asian and Pacific Islander (API) organizations to address shared needs, systemic barriers, and opportunities for collective impact.

Collaborations with Other API Communities

• Shared priorities: Region V identified overlapping needs with other API communities—immigration services, language and interpretation, anti-Asian hate prevention, elder care, health access, and workforce development—and pursued collaborative solutions.

• Coalition-building: Region V joined and helped lead coalitions of API-serving organizations to amplify policy advocacy on issues like public benefits access, healthcare equity, culturally and linguistically appropriate services, and anti-discrimination measures.

• Joint programming: Region V partnered on joint initiatives such as multilingual outreach campaigns, interagency referral networks, joint training seminars on cultural humility, and shared data collection projects to demonstrate API community needs more comprehensively.

• Emergency response: During crises (natural disasters, public health emergencies, spikes in anti-Asian incidents), Region V coordinated with broader API networks to mobilize culturally competent relief, resource lists, legal clinics, and mental health supports.

Service Models and Innovations

• Cross-community referral systems: To reduce duplication and enhance access, Region V helped create referral pathways among Filipino-serving and other API agencies, enabling clients to find linguistically and culturally appropriate services across identities.

• Data and research collaborations: Region V collaborated with academic institutions and API consortia to disaggregate data, highlight intra-API diversity, and advocate for funding and programming aligned with specific community profiles.

• Workforce development: Region V worked with other API organizations to develop training and pipelines for bilingual and bicultural service providers, health navigators, and community health workers.

Advocacy and Policy Impact

• Collective advocacy: By aligning with multi-ethnic API coalitions, Region V helped secure increased funding for interpreter services, elder care programs, community health initiatives, and protections against hate crimes.

• Legislative engagement: Region V participated in testimony, policy briefings, and stakeholder working groups to shape policies affecting API communities at local and state levels.

• Visibility and representation: Collaborative efforts helped elevate Filipino American needs within broader API policy conversations, ensuring that regionally specific concerns were included in coalition priorities.
